Shave for LIFE! How shaving your hair off can help mothers and babies

How far would you go to save the lives of the unborn? Well . . .

Me with my original head of dark curls…

I guess the idea of it all started when I tried to cheer up a friend by getting my hair straightened for a laugh. But then I began to envisage doing something to try and raise money for Youth Defence. At the start, it went from just getting my hair straightened, to straightening and shaving my hair and finally, I just said that I’d go all out by straightening, dying and shaving my hair.

Straighten up!

Although this was a fundraiser for Youth Defence’s fantastic work, I also wanted to use it as an awareness campaign. By getting sponsorship, I have had the perfect opportunity to bring up the issue of abortion and also to inform people about the continued push to upend Ireland’s pro-life laws which currently protect both unborn children and their mothers from the horror of abortion. The reaction that I have received has been both quite positive and encouraging, and, while not everybody’s opinion on abortion has not been changed, quite a few people said that they won’t think about abortion in the same way again.

And it was all yellow…

Many were quite shocked to find out that Clare Daly’s proposed Bill on Abortion included provisions that would have jailed pro-life people who offered women an alternative to abortion at abortion referral centers or clinics. The proposed sentences were stiff too: jail for up to a year and/or a fine of up  to €2000. This is just one instance of how people have been deceived about the true nature of this Bill which could have led to virtually abortion-on-demand. We must now work hard to ensure that Dr James O’Reilly’s commitment to legislating for the ABC case becomes nothing more than another politician’s false promise.

No one told me it was going to be cold…

While the ‘fro’ and those curls may be missed, I could not be more delighted to know that they have been used for a greater good. I still find it incredible that people would pay to see me straighten, dye and shave my hair and I will be forever grateful to all those who have sponsored and continue to sponsor me. All I hope is that my efforts will help the pro-life movement in any way possible to stop the legalisation of murdering our unborn children and to keep Ireland as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of global pro-life endeavours.

I raised more than €1200 so far for Youth Defence. It all helps to keep Ireland abortion-free !
