The Life Institute has discovered that abortion campaigners had been given prior knowledge of the Savita Halappanavar case, and that they planned to use it to proceed with a campaign to have abortion legalised in Ireland.
Spokeswoman for the Institute, Niamh Uí Bhriain, said that they had a copy of an email conversation which revealed that abortion advocates knew about the death of Ms Halappanavar, which she said they "most distastefully described as a 'major news story'."
The email, from the Irish Choice Network and dated November 11th, advised that "a major news story in relation to abortion access is going to break in the media early this coming week."

What they really want, and you, the taxpayer, to pay for it. Abortion activists protesting in Dublin recently
It asked members to attend a meeting of the Irish Choice Network when they would have "more definite information around which we can make some collective decisions about how best to proceed."
"Apologies if this is all a little mysterious, but the reason why I didn't want to put specific details down by email will probably be clear tomorrow," it continued.
The ICN supported an arranged protest calling for abortion outside the Dáil on Wednesday, which then became a vigil for Savita Halappanavar once the news of her tragic death was made known to the public. Calls for legalised abortion were made at the vigil.
Niamh Uí Bhriain of the Life Institute said that serious questions now needed to be asked.
"The tragic loss of Savita Halappanavar's life should not be exploited by campaigners, and the media and the HSE now needs to ask why this information seems to have been given in advance to abortion advocates," she asked.
"Was it given to them by the Irish Times who only broke the news days later, or by someone in the HSE? And if so, why?" she asked.
"As we await the investigation into what happened in Galway University Hospital, we need to know if this private patient information was given to campaigners for legalised abortion in Ireland. And the very obvious and wholly distasteful desire of abortion advocates to use this story to further their own agenda has now been exposed by this email," said Ms Uí Bhriain.

Ive noticed how anti-lifers are silenced now they had cheek to come here and attack us as catholics and called us callous when behind scenes Savita died God rest her soul and baby on 28th October so they were planning the protests and vigils for nearly 2 weeks prior to the media breaking the news to the public .Who's exploiting who? i wondered alright how they organised the vigils so fast and protests its very obvious now they had the prior knowledge of it all God have mercy on their souls and i wonder will HSE ever have accountability in this life or will it only happen before God they will have to answer for their sins .How dare University College Hospital Galway or HSE try to push the blame of death of a mother and baby onto those who fight every minute of every day for life of a baby and mother

They don't care about the poor woman who died they just use the tragedy to get abortion into Ireland. They woman died and how tragic they like to overlook the reality of the murder of the innocent which abortion is
Mary Johnston on Nov 16, 2012 2:40pm
What advocates of abortion really want is no consequences of their actions. You didn't want that baby? You shouldn't have had sex. That baby did not ask to exist but now it does. You don't get to simply erase that existance, even if you murder the child. Abortion does not only affect the baby, but the mother and father as well. Men and women have to forever live with this decision, which is not one that can simply be taken back.

Quote from The HIndu: “I am returning to Galway and will continue to keep the pressure on the Irish government with the support of social groups there to modify the law so that no other woman dies because of a religious law,” Praveen Halappanavar said here on Thursday Does it not seem obvious to you that this poor man's desire is to fight the law that he feels contributed to his wife's death? If he wants the help of pro-choice social groups to do that then we are going to help him. we're not going to abandon a grieving man's wishes.
Niamh on Nov 16, 2012 4:01pm
Mrs Halappanavar's husband, who is campaigning for a change of law in Ireland, may have contacted them before the Irish Times reported the incident?
Anonymous on Nov 16, 2012 4:53pm
Is it possible for you to post the actual emails rather than just writing a story about somebody who saw the emails?
Kevin on Nov 16, 2012 9:45pm
Mrs Halappanavar's and her baby's death have been felt with deep concern by those who support the pro-life cause. Interestingly, it's being greeted with enthusiasm and excitement by many who profess to stand for women. This tells you so much about the mentality of those who call themselves pro-choice. God help them if they manage to secure their objectives. It will cause so much misery and hurt to unsuspecting mothers and death to their infants. You just have to read the testimonies on the Silent No More website.
Elizabeth on Nov 16, 2012 11:49pm
We do not know the facts of Savita's death, understandably her husband is beside himself with grief. Its beyond belief that those calling for the right to kill would be so cold as to use his pain. If the media were concerned they would have reported on the death of Tanya Reaves in abortion clinic july. USA
Laura Connolly on Nov 17, 2012 1:15am
It is so obvious that abortion campaigners had insider information about Savida's death. The Irish Times was the first to release the story on Wednesdays edition which had a whole front page devoted to it. The timing of it shows it because it was released at the same time virtually that the abortion laws expert group had handed their report in to the dail, which was last Tuesday evening the same time that the Irish Times would have been preparing their copies to appear to the public first thing last Wednesday. Therefore huge crowds of outraged students including the NCAD for the X case all marched indignantly towards the Dail demanding legislation for the X case which is already being followed in hospitals as has since been explained by Professor Eamon O' Dwyer emeritus professor of obstetrics at NUIG. Keep up the good work all of us we must never stop fighting for mothers and babies.

Thank God for Youth Defence. The pro-aborts carefully planned coup has been exposed by the email. The pro-aborts strategy is to soften up and condition public opinion by demonising prolife supporters as fundamentalists, crazies and nutters.
Maria on Nov 17, 2012 1:56am
No one from India which has an appalling matronal mortality rate, has the right to lecture in Maternal care. Always remember, there is no suggestion that any member of her medical team, deemed an abortion would save her life. Abortion was merely requested. And then you have the pro abortion James Reilly not jumping on the chance to legislate for abortion. And he is in possession of information that he cannot reveal! If I were pro abortion I'd leave this one be.
Manna on Nov 17, 2012 2:27am

Victoria MacDonald on Nov 17, 2012 11:33am
Ditto what Elizabeth said, they don't do anything for the women who died from the Abortion procedure, and now use this one woman as a MARTYR for their cause

Poor Savita and her family, as her husband Praveen said, came to have her baby in Ireland, because of Irish maternal healthcare general ly is superior, and safer for mothers (top 3 in the world, say UN and WHO) compared to other pro abortion countries (Britain and Holland).
The pro abortion on demand brigade's obscene stampede (Clare Daly, Bacik etc) to jump on poor Savitas tragic death, and use her tragic death as a campaign step for their espoused abortion on demand agenda, in Ireland, is nauseating.
Vote these Labour Left marxist abortion on demand fanatics, and their pro abortion parties, out of office every time.
They grieve for Savita, do they grieve for intentionally aborted Irish babies, here or in Britain?
The government should publish the Abortion report soon and come up with their proposals. Also, publish all the medical facts on Savitas death.
Pro aborts, in politics and media, want abortion on demand here, as in Britain.
They don't hold any vigils outside their abortion mills, for healthy aborted babies. Pro aborts want this in Ireland.

News from India that nobody will read about in our media...please share...Many of the protests in India are being stoked by the BJP a radical fundamentalist Hindu nationalist party currently in opposition.they have long had an ace to grind with christians and catholics in India who they claim are overly enthusiastic to make Hindu converts.
My investigations show that not by a long shot is Ireland being reported negatively in India. In fact many Indians are now starting to question their own country's callous disregard for innocent human life in the womb.

The idea that India has something to teach Ireland about respecting women is a disgusting perversion of reality.
India has terminated millions of unborn children for no other reason than the fact they are girls.
This is a risk that every girl conceived in India must endure and Savita Halappanavar is one of the lucky ones to have been allowed to survive to adulthood.
That she should die while pregnant is a tragedy, but all those vultures who are only too happy to use her death to push their pro-abort agenda, would not have had a single thing to say had Savita died in the womb in India, at the hands of a pro-choice abortionist who saw nothing wrong with sex-selection abortions.
According to The Lancet ‘Selective female abortions totalled about 4.2 to 12.1 million from 1980–2010, with a greater rate of increase in the 1990s than in the 2000s.’

Look at the connections. It would appear that the journalist who broke the story is the daughter of a very well known socialist and he in turn, it has been reported, is the partner of a fellow ardent sociaist and prominent 'pro choice' campaigner in Ireland.....join the dots people. They are seriously upping the ante....

This intimidatory action by pro-abortionists to which the Irish Times, RTE, TV3, etc. belong was clearly coordinated by the abortion lobbyists in collusion with the IT and other persons in the Media. There has been no factual, independent, public interest journalism on the story of the woman's death, which had no relationship whatever to abortion - the intentional killing of an unborn child. If we had principled truth-led journalism in this country, it would have been made clear that medical treatment was what was at issue where a woman had a life-endangering condition. However, all we've got from the Media is lies as spewed from pro-abortion campaigners and a propaganda service for their nefarious aims. Note too, how the so-called Media not only gave unprecedented time, space and priority to the false abortion spin, but were in attendance at all the mutually arranged protests. The numbers at each of these events, which were clearly coordinated with the Media, were grossly misrepresented. Not only were the events "reported" word for word as dictated by the pro-abortionists without any independent criticism or reference to the facts, but the Media actually advertised and promoted these events ahead of time, imagining the numbers that would attend, and getting as many people to go as they could. Contrast this with how these same few broadcast and print outlets, which comprise most of the Media in Ireland, studiously ignored all of the pro-life events, including several over the past few months, which had much greater numbers of people in attendance. Needless, to say the horrific truth about what abortion actually does, is never reported by this small cohort of pro-abortion people who control what passes for journalism in Ireland, including the "national broadcaster". Perhaps the Irish Times, Independent, RTE and TV3 had lead articles lasting several days on each of the women killed by abortion, not to mention those permanently maimed and injured? I guess I must have just missed their extensive coverage of those deaths.

A Pro-Life rally NEEDS TO BE ORGANISED NOW!!!!!! WE NEED TO SHOW NUMBERS!!
John on Nov 18, 2012 11:56am
Surely your organisation's use of foetal and live abortion imaginary is equally as devoid of respect for the individual/s?
Lizzie on Nov 18, 2012 12:53pm
Savita died not to try and save her baby, not because of religious beliefs and not because of a morality issue over if it is right to terminate a pregnancy. She died because of confusion over the law. The doctors felt their hands were tied because there was still a foetal heartbeat but also knew she was miscarrying. It's time to have a rational debate that does not involve name calling and accusations of murder from both sides. Even if it is revealed Savita's life could not of been saved with an abortion will that make things better? Will the abortion issue be solved? I really wish abortion could be classed as good or evil, I really wish life was that simple.

India has 450 maternal deaths per 100,000 births.
If my figures are right Ireland in the last decade has had something in the region of 1.33 maternal deaths per 100,000 births.
So who needs to change their laws?
Jimmy Ryan on Nov 18, 2012 7:07pm
I wondered whether people knew that India is notorious for selective abortion since they got the means of detecting the gender of the child; it is very common among the better off to abort baby girls there so that they have a very serious demographic problem in parts of India.
Did you also know that India is regarded as a major threat to the health of the world by virtue of the availability of cheap powerful antibotics across the counter there? They use them without perscription for both animals and humans for complaints that antibiotics were never intended for. The result is that the bugs have a perfect setting to develop immunity to the point of becoming super bugs.

the email messages (revealed in Sunday Independent) in advance of poor Savitas tragic death, and the emergency strategy planning meetings which pro abortion on demand groups (ICN-Irish Choice Network etc) held prior to her tragic death story breaking thru' the media, indicates a leak of inside knowledge to pro abortion groups from their pro abortion sympathisers (media, political or medical).
They met to strategise after Sativa's tragic death. Their advance knowledge and strategy meetings indicate that the "spontaneous demonstrations" we read about, weren't quite so spontaneous, but well planned and strategised in advance to provoke an understandably sympathetic public.
Manipulation here? Read their emails, and what they were careful to avoid putting in their emails (Sunday Indo). Irish politicians and people, and women, in particular are now being manipulated and stampeded by pro abortion campaigners into kneejerk action, giving in to on-demand abortion, as in Britain, where healthy babies are aborted hourly.
Beware of being manipulated by these Left/Marxist abortion ideologues, here or in the European Parliament, where they stir up other countries against Ireland. Clear action is needed on this issue to safeguard all mothers, but pro-abortion groups and politicians are seeking to manipulate, thru playing on womens' fears, confusion, and natural grief for Savita, Irish people and Government into conceding abortion on demand here.
Pro abortion politicians, in any party, and media, must be asked clearly to state whether they now support abortion on demand?, in what circumstances?, as in Britain? with what time limits? up to what week of pregnancy? whether abortion of healthy children should be State funded? whether disabled babies should be aborted? for what degree of disability? cleft palate? downs syndrome? whether fathers are allowed a voice? Should totally innocent babies, conceived by the horrible crime of rape, be aborted routinely, as in Britain?
Is this what you want for Ireland? Do you, as a public rep, support "a womans right to choose" to abort her unborn baby, as she wishes?
We need to know all this from the pro abortion spokespeople and politicians. Clarity is important, say pro abortion politicians. It sure is. So let's have some, from those spokespeople using Savitas tragic death to manipulate public opinion towards "liberal" abortion.
Let's have some real clarity about what is the reality of abortion. Just look to Britain.
Women, in particular, need to ask these questions of their politicians, and their society, and of pro abortion politicians and their media supporters.
When will we see these now publicly grieving photo-op politicians and abortion campaigners, standing holding a vigil candle outside an abortion clinic, for the aborted babies lives inside? Consistency is good.
Let's have some real clarity on this. Poor Savita. She came here to prolife Ireland to have her baby safely. No one should use her tragic death to drive their abortion agenda. Shame on those who do.
Maria on Nov 18, 2012 9:17pm
Lizzie, what do you mean the doctors hands were tied? There is no suggestion that any Doctor deemed an abortion was medically necessary. Do you not see all this centers on a request?

Many maternal deaths in India (and elsewhere) are caused by abortions, which are both violently invasive and wholly unnecessary.

Abortion is not medicine, so never medically necessary. The pro-abortionists MO is to confuse and mislead people by conflating abortion (the intentional killing of innocent and defenceless babies in utero) with life-saving medicine which in some rare instances may result in the unintended, undesired but unavoidable death of the baby. In these genuine medicine cases everything possible is done to save the baby. Doctors' hands are not tied in Ireland when it comes to providing excellent medical treatment for mother and baby. It is Ireland's prolife ethos which helps maternal medicine in Ireland to excel worldwide. Ireland has had the lowest maternal death rate worldwide for nigh on 30 years. Countries with high abortion rates have higher maternal death rates and that is not counting many if not most of the maternal deaths caused by abortion, as the cause is suppressed. The lectures of the International Symposium on Maternal Healthcare held recently in Dublin again confirms the fact that abortion is never necessary to save a mother's life. The lectures and conclusions are online.

the best way to fight abortion on demand (which is what the pro abort extremists ultimately want in Ireland) is by educating people to the reality of industrial scale abortion.
YD has, and is, doing excellent work in this regard.
-- which is why YDs (and other prolife groups) great educational prolife billboards, campaigns etc are so hated by the pro abort fanatics. Support with your money prolife groups and campaigns.
You can help by simply talking to and educating your own family, kids, neighbours, relations, school, community, parish - to the bloody gruesome reality of dead babies, hurt mothers in British abortion clinics. This is what the pro abort fanatics are scheming to give Ireland.
Ensure prolife literature, websites, contacts is in your parish, its bookstand, and newsletter. Ask your priest or rector and parish friends to help.
The Irish Catholic Bishops recently, courageously, asked all prolife people who oppose abortion, to respectfully do so now, to their public representatives.
Vote every identified pro abortion politician, or party, out of office at every opportunity. Local elections approach to do this.
Gene Carr on Nov 19, 2012 1:34pm
It may well be that the recent Children's amendment may coperfasten the right to life of the unborn child against any philosophy of 'choice' claimed by the parents. The constitution clear imputes 'child' status to the unborn; children have impriscriptible rights and the state must act in the 'best interest of the child', even at times against the parents, if the child is under threat. What could possibly be more impriscriptible than the right to life? And how could anyone say that abortion is in the 'best interest of the child'?
Rob on Nov 19, 2012 1:52pm
Do you REALLY think facts matter to the pro-abortion crowd? Of course, they're hypocrites. Of course, they NEVER STOPPED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY CONSEQUENCES to permanent divisions it places on a country and amid citizens (ie America). And they could care less about studies about post-abortion suicide or breast cancer.
Rob on Nov 19, 2012 2:10pm
There is complicity on the part of a media that will not talk about links to abortion and breast cancer, or like the New Zealand story and the links to suicide. If they were so concerned, so caring where is their thorough study? And dear naturalists, how natural is it to do something so unnatural to a woman's body, abortion, while her hormones are still preparing her body for birthing? Surely, the Irish Times can tell us "no problem". But dear Irish Times: "Man sometimes forgives. God always forgives, when we repent. Nature however never forgives."
Brendan on Nov 19, 2012 5:34pm
When one of the justices who authored the abortion ruling in the US died, a bishop remarked:
"We're very sure he knows when life begins now".
We are that confident about what we believe. While the other side even votes to weaken their own "right" to life in the process. Now that really is stupid. I keep reading about how these politicians often have bad dreams after they vote to kill the innocent.

There is nothing mysterious, sinister or secretive going on. It was the friends and family of Savita who contacted pro-choice groups.
