The Life Institute has written to the secretary of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children asking why the unrepresentative pro-abortion campaigners, Choice Ireland, were given a platform to make accusations against crisis pregnancy counsellors.
Niamh Uí Bhriain of the Life Institute (formerly Mother and Child Campaign) wrote:
I see the Irish Times has reported that representatives of the organisation Choice Ireland, which enjoys no significant public support, was invited to make a presentation to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children. They then used that opportunity to make allegations concerning crisis pregnancy counsellors and to promote their case for legislative change.
I would like to know:
- Who issued the invitation to Choice Ireland to make this presentation?
- Is the Joint Committee on Health and Children now going to afford a right to reply to the persons and/or agencies against whom these allegations have been made?
- Has the Committee heard from other persons who have been negatively affected by their experiences with abortion referral agencies in Ireland?
I await your reply.
