YD member Kate Cullen went undercover to a "Choice Ireland" conference recently and reports back from the poorly-attended event.
“Recently, I embarked on an adventure into the world of pro-abortion Ireland. Choice Ireland were holding their Annual conference this past weekend and I decided to attend, so I went undercover along with another member of YD, to keep an eye on the activity of this organization, in hopes that we may better serve the pro-life community as well as strive to convert the hearts of pro-abortion activists.
Upon entering the venue, I was struck by the lack of people at their supposed ‘annual conference’. There were just barely 20 people there, and that was including the two of us undercover pro-lifers. The speakers were all approximately two generations older than me. The speakers included: Dr. Anne Rossitter, who spoke of the UK ‘abortion experience; Sandra McEvoy, who gave a history of abortion from the 1861 Act onwards; Dr. Ailbhe Smyth, who spoke extensively about her homosexual escapades as well as 1983 Amendment; and then the leader of Choice Ireland Sinead Ahern who went on at length about the current abortion situation and the future of the pro-abortion movement in Ireland. I was not surprised by anything that was discussed, although I was disgusted by the way that abortion was approached by these people who claim to be promoting human rights.
At no stage was a man even mentioned, except in a derogatory sense. One speaker bizarrely claimed that “men and society force women to be mothers”. I do not have any children myself (yet), but it was laughable to think that motherhood is usually “forced” upon women. To this conference, motherhood and children are not gifts, but rather curses. Secondly, the baby was never mentioned. Abortion was likened to a ‘tumour’ to be removed or some disease that needed to be remedied. The child in the womb is not a tumor, nor a parasite to be destroyed, and it was disturbing that this is how it was presented at the conference.
A surprising revelation coming out of the conference is that pro-aborts plan to rally for another abortion referendum in 2012. They highlighted the history of referenda in 1992, 2002, and now they have their sights set on the next 10 year mark, which would be 2012. They have decided, (without any input from reality, it seems) that every time there is an abortion referendum, the public view of abortion softens. No concrete plans for moving forward were suggested but they said they intended to rally politicians and political parties to help push a referendum campaign to the forefront. They also intend to continue their battle against ‘rogue pregnancy counselling centers’ (as they call them) and they are passionate about rallying against ‘the Lifers’, which was their nickname for pro-life activists. ( I actually kind of love that nickname! The Lifers!) Bitter comments were made by delegates in regard to the ubiquitous campaigning by Youth Defence, and delegates were urged to match YD’s commitment to the cause.
Overall, the whole experience made me sad for these women (and the one man in attendance at the conference), who are obviously hurting and completely misguided. It also made me see how blessed I am to be a part of a movement that is so zealous, joyful, and that revolves around love. We must continue to rise up, stronger than ever. We must strive to convert hearts, in order to change minds. Love conquers all, thus we have nothing to worry about when it comes to these pro-abortionists who are in search of nothing more than a soapbox to rail from.”

Congratulations Katie. Thanks for going down and reporting back. Twenty delegates! So where was the increasing number of Irish people who support abortion?
Thanks for reporting back to us.
God bless you and keep up the marvelous endeavours.

Perhaps it was like the Anarchist group in "The Man who was Thursday" where all the Anarchists were secret policemen!!! THere were possibly even fewer pro aborts than appeared to be present to the two brave girls. Paul Marx the greatest of all prolifers went undercover at an Abortion conference to write his book "The Death Peddlers Peddlers"

Empty cans always make the most noise!! If about 18 is all they could muster up for their annual conference, they are where they belong, in the minority, with their culture of death. Congrats to the two "Lifers" who attended on our behalf.Keep up the excellent work. God bless!

Fine work Kate in investigating the dark side. That they consider a fetus as something to be rid of is indiciative of their lack of human values. That thought takes selfishness to a whole new level.
It is truly sad to think that there are people that have no love for the children, born and unborn of the world.

Hey Kate, Good to know you don't have anything better to do with your time. Stop reading Bond novels and get a life!

Kate It must have been very painfull to see and hear such bitter and hatefull points of view at that meeting. They need to grow up and face the fact -There is a God.

Life will win in the end. Ireland may be changing but abortion will always be the killing of an unborn child. Abortion is not a religious issue, it is a civil human rights issue. Its so typical that the 2 pro-abortion comments here are aggressive and hateful. Typical!

Grainne , as long as you pro aborts keep contracepting and aborting yourselves out of existance we will always outnumber you! YD conference last November 200 young people. Choice Ireland conference 18. Do the maths!

We 'lifers' in Australia just wish we could turn back the clock and be abortion free also...it is a tough battle to reclaim ground, but we will...don't give them an inch, be as dilligent as you have ever been with every push they make, every referendum, every suggestion of pushing their agenda of death...Go YD!!

What do pro-lifers have to gain from being pro life? Life and love. Pro-abortionists? Death and misery. Oh and for the abortion industry, billions and billions and billions of pounds ie.blood money. As if they give a flying xxxx about the real welfare of women! Hence they toss them out of their clinics like flies once they've finished with them. 'Grieving? Sorry we can't help you.'
Were pro-abortionists not once in the womb too, no? It absolutely defies common sense. Stop denying the facts in the name of political correctness and wake up to the truth of abortion. It does nothing but serious HARM to women. Counselling thousands of post-abortive women and men who have been affected.......... every one of them in regret and suffering in one form or another.
Choose love, choose life!

Well done Kate and YD friend for reporting on these pro-aborts plans to target politicians. Well done for defending babies in the womb. Mobilise the pro life vote.
