Lucy Mc Cully, SPUC Scotland's education officer spoke last weekend at the Viva La Vida! Conference about the importance of educating Scotland's young people through SPUC's 'Education4Life' schools programme. This programme incorporates a number of talks with a selection of topics such as The Beginning of Life, End of Life, and Relationships. This simple programme has been brought to over 4,500 post-primary students across Scotland, with Lucy giving an average of 230 talks per school year, in order to equip young people with the information they need to make positive life choices. This programme brings the real facts about issues such as abortion, embryo research and euthanasia to the students.
In 2007, Lucy met some Youth Defence members at a conference she organised in Scotland for young people, and was introduced to our beautifully designed, ground-breaking schools programme. The programme uses advanced technology and medical footage to give a startlingly beautiful window into the womb; revealing the amazing humanity and development of the unborn child from conception up until birth. She was so impressed with the presentation that she decided to try and incorporate it into her schools presentation in Scotland.
And so, in Scotland, YD’s schools programme on developing life was piloted first in Glasgow schools , to acclaim from teachers and students. Lucy has done great work in presenting the programme to Scottish Catholic Head Teachers, and most of the Head Teachers booked her for a presentation. She also contacted diocesan primary RE advisors for their approval and is now sending a copy of our new DVD, along with a speaker request form, to all 350+ Catholic primary schools in Scotland.
Lucy’s passion in bringing the truth to young people through this schools programme is really impressive and we wish her all the best with her fantastic work. Our schools programme is truly an international success.
