
Slovak President Rudolf Schuster vetoed a bill that would have allowed abortions in cases of serious genetic defect to be carried out before the 24th week of pregnancy. To overturn the veto, 76 of the 150 MPs must vote in favour of the legislation. In the first vote only 70 MPs backed the law.
This news has been welcomed by Youth Defence, Ireland. Eoghan De Faoite, Chairman of Youth Defence said, "it is encouraging for us here in Ireland to know that there are some politicians in Europe that will stand in defence of the unborn child".
