Legalised abortion in the United States has been characterised by its violence. In its most extreme form it has claimed the lives of over one and a half million babies every year. Nonetheless much of the media attention has focused on anti-abortion violence, and in particular acts committed against doctors and personnel of abortion clinics.
The arrest of James Copp in France today, accused of such a shooting, marks the possible end of a long manhunt. Reports are that Mr. Copp may have spent some time in Ireland, possibly working in a Irish hospital for over six months. As such, questions are being asked as to whether he received aid from Pro-Life groups in Ireland.
Youth Defence would like to state, without equivocation, that at no time did we have any contact with Mr. Copp if, as reported, he was in Ireland. It has been suggested that he went under a pseudonym while here. We have checked the reported pseudonyms and again can state, without equivocation that we have had no contact under these names.
Youth Defence is a Pro-Life organisation and as such we would regard the killing of persons involved in the abortion industry as contrary to the entire ethos of our work. We do not, and have never, condoned violence in the course of our own activities and would not support any person involved in violence.
In conclusion, we would hope that the accused would be given a fair trail and be counted as innocent until proven guilty.
