Youth Defence today accused a small group of pro-abortion doctors, with the misnomer of Doctors for Choice, of using media contacts and political pressures to override the democratic process. Eoghan de Faoite, the YD chairman said that Doctors for Choice were part of a small minority of abortion fanatics who, while acknowledging that they had little chance of success in gaining popular support for abortion legislation, sought to have abortion imposed on Ireland by means of the European Courts.
Youth Defence ask the European Courts to recognize that this matter must be decided by the Irish people for themselves. Norma McCorvey, the American Jane Roe in the Roe vs Wade case which legalized abortion on demand in the US has spent the past ten years publicly regretting her decision to go to court. She says she was manipulated and used by a small but powerful group of professionals determined to see abortion legalized. Doctors for Choice have no secret of their desire to do the same. They are engaging in a grossly unethical form of campaigning which should be disregarded and exposed.
