The 2005 Youth Defence National Pro Life Road Show has now come to a successful close. After ten days we met our target of reaching 18 towns and cities across the length and breadth of the country.
Each town we visited reaffirmed our belief in the importance behind engaging in active street work in this fashion as the majority of the people we came across had no other sources of pro life material.
In many cases peoples' eyes were opened up to the horrors of abortion and to the humanity of the unborn child at all stages of development.
There were also many thousands of petitions signed by the public to be passed on to an Taoiseach in order to show their utter distaste towards any possible legalisation of abortion.
On this occasion for the first time seven young people from a Catholic action group in the United States called FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) participated in the Road Show in order to learn from Youth Defence’s successful pro life activism and then apply these effective techniques in colleges and universities across the U.S.
It appeared evident very quickly that pro life information work came very natural to the seven members who adapted very quickly and YD firmly believe that they will be very pro active in promoting a culture of life among America’s students. The style of anti abortion campaigning undertaken by Youth Defence has been adopted by various pro-life groups from around the globe and proved effective wherever practiced.
