Youth Defence today expressed their concern that Amnesty Ireland, contrary to previous reports, have not opted out of the decision by Amnesty International to campaign for universal abortion rights.
AI previously worked to promote respect for all human rights as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, where Article Three states that: ‘Everyone has a right to life, liberty and security of person’. Now choosing to support the abortion industry who kill children and harm women in order to make a profit, Ireland’s leading pro-life organisation point out the hypocrisy of Amnesty International’s new policy as being completely contradictory to what AI stands for.
Eoghan de Faoite, spokesperson for Youth Defence, said today, “Amnesty International stands accused of being hypocritical since the same organisation which would campaign to stop the abuse and torture of a young child will now campaign to facilitate the abuse, torture and death of that same child if he is still in the womb.”
Youth Defence believes in the right to life of all unborn children, and calls on Amnesty International to protect the rights of women and children everywhere. Forced abortions and sterilisations have become part of the population control processes supported by abortion providers in developing countries and Youth Defence urges Amnesty Ireland to reject the pro-abortion policy of Amnesty International and uphold the right to life of all persons – born and unborn.
Eoghan de Faoite concluded: ‘The current spokesperson for Amnesty Ireland, Mrs Noleen Hartigan - formerly the chair of the Irish Family Planning Association and campaigner of abortion on demand in Ireland - should not be bringing her own agenda to distort the aims of Amnesty Ireland.’
He added: ‘Supporting abortion has lost Amnesty International goodwill, support and the respect it has earned as being a true human rights defender. Any further attempts by Amnesty Ireland to campaign for or force abortion on Ireland will be met with strong opposition.’
