Irish third-level students are experiencing a ‘pro-life blitz’ this week as The Witness Tour, organised by the student group Ultrasound, visits colleges and universities across the country.
‘We’re really excited about the week’, said Prue Neiberding, one of the organisers of the tour. ‘Our previous tour with Gianna Jessen was such a hit with the students and we’re expecting this one to bring in just as many people.’
The Witness Tour features Kathy Sparks – a former abortion worker - and Rebecca Kiessling –who was conceived through rape - and is expected to attract the attention of thousands of students.
New materials have been designed and printed by the Ultrasound network - which is a Youth Defence affiliate - and are intended specifically for students. These materials include leaflets, posters, information booklets, stickers, T-shirts and free pro-life wristbands for all the students. ‘Both of these women have truly remarkable stories to tell’, said Íde Nic Mhathúna, an organiser with Ultrasound. ‘It’s great to see the students react to the pro-life message and we’re hoping for the same jump in membership that we experienced on the last tour.’
The Witness Tour will visit Dublin City University, NUI Maynooth, Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology, University College Cork and the University of Limerick. Twenty members of the Ultrasound tour team will be working to promote the pro-life message on campus during the day. The team will also take the opportunity to invite students to attend the testimonies of both Kathy Sparks and Rebecca Kiessling in the evening.
