Kathy Sparks knows the abortion industry inside out; she assisted in killing 800 babies before turning to God and away from the horror of a business that so cruelly exploits mothers and babies for profit. She tells of how abortion clinic ‘counsellors’ would cry with women at the drop of a hat, telling mothers how expensive babies were, and how a cheap, easy abortion would simply take the problem away. And having seen a great deal of broken little bodies dumped for disposal she knows that every abortion takes an innocent human life.
Rebecca Kiessling was conceived through rape. A mother to five beautiful children she’s a powerful and passionate speaker who defends the right of every child to be born. Her very existence is a timely reminder that there should be no exceptions when it comes to the right-to-life of preborn children.
These women are more than just speakers - they are significant and authoritative witnesses for the Culture of Life. It’s very difficult for abortion campaigners to oppose their testimonies. That’s why they work to silence them.
We’ve just finished a tour of Irish colleges which was both revealing and inspiring. It was great to see how many students are open to the pro-life message once it’s presented to them. And it’s wonderful to come back from a six-day slog of travelling and organising with sheets of names of young people who want to get involved in keeping Ireland abortion-free.
However, in several colleges, we had to face spiteful and determined opposition to our Witness Tour. In GMIT in Galway, the college authorities practically locked down the college rather than let Kathy and Rebecca speak, despite the fact that arrangements for the meeting and for the day’s activities had been arranged for weeks, with all payments made in advance as requested.
This was despicable, and was not the result of anything other than the typical manifestation of the intolerant liberal agenda at work. It seems we only have the right to free speech if we’re all bleating the same sheep-like mantra. I was embarrassed that our guests saw at first hand just how parochial, small-minded and undemocratic Irish universities could be. We’re told one of the benefits of education is that it opens your mind and fosters understanding; yet some Irish institutes of education - UCD acted in the same fashion in the past - are happy to censor any opinion which they simply don’t agree with.
I’m happy to report that the student body strongly disagreed with the decision made on their behalf. The pro-life students involved in the Tour normally spend the day promoting the evening talk and spreading the pro-life message; in GMIT they were prevented from doing so. The college authorities spent the day tearing down the Ultrasound posters advertising the Tour, putting up signs saying that the talk was cancelled, and trying to bully pro-life students. Yet in just under an hour we had gathered signatures from 200 students who were more than a little annoyed that the college was acting as censor and was dictating what views and opinions the students could hear.
That evening the college was more like a jail than a place of learning - locked doors and muscular security men made sure that the truth about abortion could not be heard. But we gathered together the students who, despite all the odds, had come to hear the speakers and Kathy Sparks gave them her testimony. They’ve asked us to come back down in a fortnight so that they can get involved in Ultrasound - our pro-life student society - and we’ll be happy to do so.
In the meantime; you have to wonder just how afraid the abortion campaigners are of the truth when they so blatantly and desperately want to conceal it.
