A nationwide advertising campaign opposing lethal research on the human embryo will be formerly launched at a press conference on Monday August 14th in Buswells Hotel in Molesworth Street, Dublin 2 at 11am
This second phase of the No Exceptions Campaign, which is being produced by Youth Defence, uses bus shelter adverts and campaign posters to cover the country with their message,
”We’re using this advert to point to the humanity of the human embryo, and the fact that, for every one of us, life is a continuum from fertilisation to death,” said the Youth Defence chairman, Eoghan de Faoite. “This campaign emphasises the need to protect life from the moment of fertilisation and explains why experimenting on human life is always wrong and isn’t working.”
The advertising campaign is enhanced by an information leaflet and a website – www.embryoresearch.org - which explain the issues involved. “Many people have been deliberately confused by the distinction between adult and embryonic stem cells,” said Eoghan de Faoite, “Our leaflet and website explain the ethical differences and how adult stem cells are providing cures while using stem cells from the human embryo has failed to cure even one person.”
The No Exceptions Campaign will also host Jacki Rabon – whose paralysis has been successfully treated by adult stem cells – in October and plan a series of newspaper adverts at that time. Youth Defence’s 50 page No Exceptions report which examined the current international evidence in regard to embryo research and reviewed the recommendations of the Irish Commission on Assisted Human Reproduction has already been widely distributed.
Carolyn Johnson, a Youth Defence co-ordinator, said that they were delighted with the response to date with the campaign. “We’re finding that people are very responsive to our message’” she said. “No-one else is really speaking to them about this issue, so they are hearing the pro-life message loud and clear.” Ms Johnston added that she was very pleased to see the enthusiasm brought to the campaign by pro-lifers nationwide. “People are calling and offering to help every day,” she said. “ We printed 120,000 leaflets at the end of July, and we are ordering more to meet demand. “
