Youth Defence has been campaigning continuously against abortion for the past 2 years. Part of our campaign for a credible pro-life referendum is the lobbying of politicians. This has proved unsuccessful as not one TD from the so-called pro-life Fianna Fail party came out against abortion. In turn we find Sean Haughey's statement to be both brave and accurate as Youth Defence realise his fears that the Labour Party have a "steamroller approach to the liberal agenda of divorce, abortion, and the church's role in education".
However, Deputy Sean Haughey talks about the "silent majority". He should remember that Maire Geoghegan-Quinn, Minister for Justice, his own colleague in Fianna Fail, was only too happy to spearhead Labours stream rolling on homosexuality, abortion and divorce and it was Maire Geoghegan-Quinn too who silenced the people with her Public Order (Criminal Justice) Bill.
Because of the contempt shown to the Fianna Fail grassroots the higherarchy of the Fianna Fail party lost 9 seats in the last election. Fianna Fail must learn again to listen to the people instead of being media driven by feminists and liberals and we now hope that colleagues of Sean Haughey's will realise that the life of one unborn child is worth more than unity, either in a European or government context.
