A ten-day pro-life information Roadshow, featuring cutting-edge materials and information, and supported by up to 70 volunteers, will spend its second day in Athlone and Mullingar tomorrow, Thursday July 7th.
It’s the twentieth year of the Roadshow, which brings information about abortion to tens of thousands of people each summer, and organisers say the Midland towns provide an ideal base for a positive and energetic start to the pro-life Tour.
“Athlone and Mullingar are lively, busy towns with lots of shoppers and we get huge interest in our pro-life sessions,” said Íde Nic Mhathúna of Youth Defence, the pro-life group who organise the Roadshow each year. “In particular, we come across hundreds of people who really don’t know that much about abortion, and who take the opportunity to stop, talk and get some information on the effects of abortion on women and children.”
The Roadshow has packed 100,000 informative leaflets, booklets, pins, stickers and cards, and expect to have distributed every one by the end of the tour. A newly-produced video by Youth Defence which uses beautiful images of the child in the womb captured by cutting-edge technology is also available, and is expected to prove very popular.
Ms Nic Mhathúna said that she expected the Roadshow experience in the Midlands to be largely positive but that the group welcomed debate and questions. “It’s always great to see people re-affirming their pro-life views but really we’re mostly about bringing information to people who want to know more,” she said. “We’re working at the frontline of the movement and we’re here to answer questions and provide information.”
“And she added that the Roadshow brought new life-affirming stories each year. “Every year we meet mothers, with gorgeous babies, who were considering abortion and changed their mind because they received information on the Roadshow,” she said. “It’s the best result you could possible ask for.”
