The wording for the proposed referenda is totally unacceptable to Youth Defence and, we believe, to the majority of the Irish people. The government has offered to the people 3 constitutional amendments which will promote the introduction of abortion on demand within a short period of time.
The travel subsection, in addition to Art. 40:3:3 must be taken to indicate that our Constitution recognised a right to travel to have pre-born children killed, in a most violent and disgusting manner. If the State, through the legislation, acknowledges a devaluation of the unborn once he/she leaves the country, it is only a matter of time before the devaluation comes home. We accept no reduction in the value of our pre-born children.
The information subsection, which deals with the provision of referral contact number and indeed, advertising of abortion factories on Irish radio and television, must also be rejected by the Irish people. Just as we would not allow the sellers of arms and explosives to advertise in our media, nor to teach people how to kill with impunity, so we cannot allow the teaching of how to have children killed.
The government has refused to accept the words of the four Professors of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in our four state run medical schools. They appear to be taking their medical opinion from Dr. Doolittle Dr. Who. Mr. Reynold's threat to introduce what has proven in other countries to be abortion on demand if we reject this referendum is beyond contempt. Legal abortion as an answer to threatened suicide has introduced abortion on demand because it is impossible to assesses true suicidal intent.
The illegitimate choice of constitutionally accepted direct abortion or legislation leading to abortion on demand must be rejected by the Irish people. We would call upon all pro-life groups and people to respond to the government's attempts at dictatorship by rejecting the very validity of the referendum. We must not be passive. The victims of abortion must be protected. Finally we say to the government "Let the people speak and they will be a voice for the voiceless, the victims of the silent holocaust".
