It was reported in the main newspapers that president Bill Clinton is coming to Ireland to help with the peace process to end the violence and the bloodshed. Hypocrite! In January 1993 after just two days in office and without consulting congress Bill Clinton signed five pro-abortion Executive Orders (EOs). In May 1993 Bill Clinton signed the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Bill which made it a criminal offence to picket peacefully outside abortion clinics and thus leaving it open for lengthy custodial sentences to be imposed on pro-life demonstrators.
On June 13th 1997 thirteen states in the U.S. had made it illegal to perform partial birth abortion. The proposed federal bill (HR 1122) defined partial birth abortion as "an abortion in which the person performing the abortion partially vaginally delivers a living foetus before killing the foetus and completing the delivery". Congressman Canady brought this Bill before the congress to ban partial birth abortion statewide. The House of Representatives passed this Bill and so did the majority of Senators. Then it went to be signed into law by president Clinton. But the president vetoed it.
There is only one way around a presidential veto. Both the House and the Senate must over ride the veto by a two-thirds majority. Such was the revulsion against partial birth abortion by both Republican and Democratic Congressmen the house did over ride the veto. The Bill went to the Senate again where it failed to defeat the president's veto by just three votes.
In response to this Youth Defence conducted a protest outside the G.P.O. in Dublin's O'Connell Street today. Banners and placards were displayed calling on Bill Clinton to reverse his veto on partial birth abortion.
Bill Clinton is responsible for violence and bloodshed so when is he going to call a cease-fire on the unborn. When is he going to decommission the abortionist weapons? When is Bill Clinton going to initiate his own peace process?
