Following a peaceful anti-abortion protest outside the Dail today, two members of Youth Defence were viciously assaulted by twelve members of the Dublin Abortion Information Campaign who had just been addressed by Proinsias De Rossa of Democratic Left. Following this, two members of the DAIC were arrested.
One of their victims sustained severe injuries to the eye which required hospital treatment. His attacker, a member of the pro-abortion campaign was arrested by the Gardai.
Youth Defence has a policy of non-aggression and non-violence with the sole aim of protecting the unborn child.
Over the past two years Youth Defence have protested peacefully on the streets of most towns and cities in Ireland and our friendly and open nature has earned us overwhelming support from the general public.
In contrast the DAIC seem to have a policy of aggression and violence, which they have displayed time and time again through their direct confrontational tactics against peaceful pro-life demonstrators, including elderly women and young children.
Youth Defence organised their demonstration on the Dail immediately after the so-called "new X-case" came to light. We are disgusted that the pro-abortion lobby held a counter picket with the obvious aim of disrupting a peaceful protest against the legalisation of abortion.
